Because Lesson 5 is a two-part session, I’ve found it difficult to organize my thoughts in just 24 hours. As a result, my next post may take a few more days to compose. In the meantime, here’s a preview of my thoughts regarding Del Tackett’s treatment of evolution. Until then …
Preview of Searching for Truth in “The Truth Project” — Lesson 5: Science — What Is True?
Looking forward to your comments on the "science" installments of the Truth Project. I endured this installment a few weeks ago with a group from my wife's church. I was expecting a stream of straw man arguments, arguments from final consequences, and arguments from personal incredulity (and I was not disappointed). What was disappointing was how badly he misrepresented even the basic scientific meaning of "theory". Del also continued to demonize his favorite bogymen: Darwin, Sagan, and Dawkins. Unfortunately, I received mostly blank stares when I suggested that there could be a middle ground between "the-bible-is-literally-true" and "evolution-means-God-isn't-true". Once again, Del's black and white, all or nothing thinking discourages all meaningful discussion. Thanks again for all you posts on this subject.
J-Dubya,
"Endured," eh? Spot on.
Lesson 6, on revisionist history, looks somewhat interesting. It'd be nice to get on board TTP at some point in the series. 😉
